Feather, George Edwin Goodall

George Feather was born on the 7th April 1897 and baptised on the 2nd May 1897 in All Saints, Mackworth, the son of Edgar and Sarah Annie Feather. The 1901 census shows the family living at Station Road, Mickleover. By 1911 they had moved to 64 Ashbourne Road.
George became a butcher, but on the 2nd December 1915 he joined the Royal Navy. He is described as 5ft 9ins tall with fair hair and hazel eyes. On the 23rd November 1916 he was attached to the Royal Naval Drake Division of the BEF.
On the 8th February 1917 he was seriously wounded in the left leg, left wrist and thigh. He was on the hospital serious list for some time. Eventually he had to have his left leg amputated below the knee.
He was discharged from the Navy on the 19th June 1918.
George went on to marry Hilda May Wallis at All Saints in 1922.
He died in 1949.
